Professor Kanika Johar joined Albany Law School in September 2020 as a Visiting Assistant Professor. She teaches Introduction to Lawyering and offers instruction to Albany Law School graduates preparing for the Uniform Bar Examination.

Prior to joining Albany Law School, Professor Johar was a matrimonial and family law attorney, representing clients in the litigation, as well as negotiation, of separation, divorce, custody, child support, and spousal support. She also served as Senior Counsel to the New York Board of Law Examiners where she developed questions for the New York Law Exam, prepared and presented cases for administrative disciplinary hearings, analyzed applications and appeals for test accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and determined eligibility of applicants for admission to the bar examination in compliance with the rules of the Court of Appeals. Prior to her employment with the Board of Law Examiners, Professor Johar served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Eugene F. Pigott at the New York Court of Appeals. As a law clerk, she drafted bench memoranda; summarized cases prior to oral argument; assisted in drafting the Court’s opinions, dissents, or concurrences; and reviewed civil motions for leave to appeal and criminal leave applications.

Before attending law school, Professor Johar worked as a Healthcare Representative for Pfizer, Inc.

 

Selected Achievements

Professor Johar joined the Capital District Women’s Bar Association Committee on the Judiciary.

Professor Kanika Johar was appointed to the State of New York Supreme Court's Committee on Character and Fitness of the Appellate Division, Third Department.
