Application to Albany Law's J.D. Program as a First-Year Student

All applications to this program MUST be submitted electronically using the above link to LSAC. Paper applications are not accepted. The deadline for receipt of applications for the Fall 2011 entering class is March 1, 2011.

Checklist of Required Items - JD First Year:

1. Application:   Albany Law School JD First Year application with all questions answered, electronically submitted and certified;  paper applications are not accepted;   

2. $60 Application Fee:  Payable by credit card or debit card in US funds; if you received a fee waiver through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), then your application fee to Albany Law will also be waived;   

3. Law School Admission Test (LSAT):   Applicants are encouraged to sit for the LSAT in June, September/October, or December in the year before they wish to enroll; February scores will be also be accepted but the admission decision for those applicants could be delayed;  scores for later LSATs may be considered on a space-available basis;  Albany Law School will consider all scores presented by an individual applicant but consistent with LSAC guidance, more weight is given to the highest LSAT score; LSAT scores older than five years from the anticipated year of matriculation will not be accepted;    

4. LSAC Law School Report:  Registration with the LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS) is required; the following materials must be submitted through this service;     a. Two letters of recommendation:  preferably from faculty who can address the applicant's academic and intellectual abilities; letters from employers are also desirable, especially from applicants who received their undergraduate degree three years prior; online evaluations will also b accepted through CAS;   

b. Transcripts:  requested from all colleges, professional or technical schools the applicant has attended either as a matriculant or non-matriculant; NOTE: If admitted, official transcripts from all educational institutions must be submitted prior to matriculating in August at Albany Law School;   

 

5. Personal Statement:  Should be limited to no more than two, typed, double-spaced pages, on a topic of the applicant's choosing, that will provide additional insight into the applicant's qualifications and interests;   

6. Résumé:  Including all employment during the academic year as an undergraduate, and any substantive extra-curricular  activities and community service;   

7. Certification:  All applicants must electronically certify that the information provided in the application, and all supporting documents and attachments, are complete and accurate, and that while the application is active, the applicant will promptly advise the Albany Law School Admissions Office of any change in any of the facts included in the application, supporting documents and attachments;   

8. Financial documentation:  (Not required for US citizens or permanent residents.) Completed "International Student Financial Statement" to document the applicant's ability to pay the required cost of attendance. This documentation is required to prepare the I-20 form necessary to obtain your F-1 student visa. 

Additional attachments:  Applicants may submit brief, electronic attachments to this application to explain any LSAT score discrepancies, gaps in education or work history, or other information not disclosed elsewhere in the application that may be of assistance to the admissions committee during the admissions application file review process.     

Applicants who answer "YES" to questions, 3, 4, 6 or 7 must provide details on an electronic attachment.
