On April 3, 2017, the Government Law Center organized a day on the Albany Law School campus with Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The Justice met with Albany Law students, including a private meeting with Government Law Center Fellows, and spent time with the faculty. The Justice also graciously participated in a question-and-answer session with the entire student body, moderated by Dean Alicia Ouellette and GLC Director Andy Ayers.
March for Justice: The Lawyer’s Role in Preserving Democracy and Ensuring Access to Justice
On March 30, James Sandman, President of the U.S. Legal Services Corporation -- the federal agency that funds free legal services to low-income communities throughout the United States -- spoke about the importance of access to justice, joined by a distinguished group of panelists: City of Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan ’94; Joanne Macri ’94, the Director of Regional Initiatives at the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services; Lillian Moy, Executive Director of The Legal Aid Society of Northeast New York; and Glinnesa Gailliard ’07, Legal Counsel for CDPHP.
The event was part of a series, "March for Justice," organized in the month of March by law schools across New York State to highlight the importance of access to justice and the critical role lawyers play in our democracy, in preserving the rule of law, and promoting and preserving civil and human rights. Anderson Breakfast Series: Cybersecurity
On February 14, a panel of experts on cybersecurity discussed new paradigms and new threats, and their implications for the law. The panel was moderated by Antony Haynes, Albany Law School's Associate Dean for Strategic Systems and Information Initiatives.
On the panel were Mary Kaveney, Esq., Chief Administrative Officer for the Global Cyber Alliance; Brian Nussbaum, PhD, assistant professor in the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity at the University at Albany; Deirdre O'Callaghan, Esq., Chief Counsel of the Center for Internet Security.
