Albany Law Professor Vincent M. Bonventre will review the major developments of the Supreme Court’s Term. Among other things, he will analyze the impact of Neil Gorsuch’s appointment to fill the Scalia vacancy on the Supreme Court’s case law, including any resulting alliances and oppositions within the Court. Professor Bonventre will also survey the Supreme Court’s major decisions this past term, as well as the cumulative voting patterns of the Justices and the decisional patterns of the Court as a whole.

This program will cover changes in federal and state estate and income tax law together with drafting and planning considerations, digital assets, what they are, and how to ensure they are properly considered in an estate plan. This program will address several ethical issues faced by practicing lawyers including: drafting ethical and enforceable fee agreements; nonresident New York lawyers practicing without a New York office; ethical issues regarding social media, including Court of Appeals Forman decision; caselaw addressing fee-splitting with lawyers outside firm; and relevant ethical problems faced by Michael Cohen, Esq. Farm businesses are fundamental to New York State’s economy and the agricultural food and product diversity that the state is renowned for. Yet many of these businesses are struggling to survive into the next generation. This Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program is designed to provide attendees with an in-depth understanding of the diverse legal solutions available to farm businesses planning for sustainable futures.
