Mr. Fernandez is Chairman and CEO of Wynthrop Rhodes, a private equity consulting firm in Atlanta, Georgia.
Previously, Mr. Fernandez served as Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel for The Home Depot, Inc. from 2001-2007, where he was responsible for all legal functions worldwide, and served as legal counsel for the Company’s CEO and Board of Directors. During his tenure he established the Company’s new Corporate Governance Standards under Sarbanes-Oxley and implemented a worldwide Corporate Compliance Program. Mr. Fernandez was also responsible for the Company’s Risk Management, Corporate Security and Aviation functions.
Prior to joining The Home Depot, Mr. Fernandez was Managing Partner of the law firm Fernandez, Burstein, Tuczinski & Collura in Albany, New York from 1986-2000.
During this time period he also served as a faculty member of the University of Albany’s Department of Accounting, and served as the Director of the Masters in Taxation Program from 1999-2000. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Fernandez was a Certified Public Accountant with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in New York City where his primary responsibility was the audit of publicly held companies.
Mr. Fernandez is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a member of the Governing Board of Directors of the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and has previously served on the Legal Advisory Committee to the New York Stock Exchange and on the Dean’s Advisory Committee at New York University School of Law. Mr. Fernandez earned his BBA from St. Bonaventure University, his JD from Albany Law School, and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
